App hailed a success for cancer patients
Date of release: 1 May 2025
More than 100 people have downloaded an app to support cancer patients through their diagnosis and treatment at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

The MySunrise Cancer Companion app provides a range of informative content including bespoke videos personalised to Wolverhampton services and can even help patients better prepare for their treatment out of hospital before they come in and get support
if they feel unwell on treatment.
The aim is to introduce patients to their cancer team and the range of services available in the area but also help empower them through a difficult time and get the best out of their treatment.
One patient gave the following feedback: “I really like it as a patient. Having all the info in one place is great.
“A lot of the stress is not understanding how the system works, i.e. getting a blood test, collecting additional medicines.”
As well as a detailed introduction to New Cross Hospital, the app provides patients with direct phone numbers to contact local specialist teams and the acute oncology service.
Jo O’Sullivan, Living With and Beyond Cancer Support Manager, said: “The MySunrise Cancer Companion app has been really successful so far.
“It is providing our patients with a meaningful additional resource to support them and their families through cancer diagnosis and treatment.
“This resource is fully individualised to our Trust and features interviews with our staff and patients, as well as lots of information about our teams, our facilities, and other resources and support available locally.
“We believe the MySunrise app will be a hugely valuable tool for patients, supporting them through every step of their cancer treatment and improving the overall experience for them and their families.”
George Brighton, Director and Co-Founder of MySunrise, said: “The app is a free resource for patients and their families designed to empower them through treatment and also help to take some of the pressure of the staff and cancer services.
“It’s been designed in partnership with the Cancer Services Team at the Trust and includes a whole range of local information and digital tools to give patients everything they need to help them through this difficult time. We’ve had some great feedback from patients and continue to seek the views of those using it to improve the app for the communities of Wolverhampton.”
MySunrise is a free to download patient information app for Apple iOS and Android devices and will soon be available and even more accessible on web.
