The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust are marking International Day of the Midwife (5 May).

This is a day dedicated to recognising and appreciating the vital role Midwives play in delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality care for mums, babies and families around the world.

This year’s theme, set by the International Confederation of Midwives, is ‘Midwives: Critical in Every Crisis’. It shines a light on the essential role Midwives play during emergencies – from natural disasters to conflicts. Even in the toughest times, Midwives continue to provide essential care for women, babies and families.

Across both organisations, Midwives are at the heart of Maternity Services – from Antenatal clinics and community visits to Delivery Suites and postnatal care. They support parents through some of life’s most joyful and difficult moments with professionalism, empathy and strength.

Tracy Palmer, Director of Midwifery at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust said: “This day is a wonderful opportunity to shine a spotlight on the amazing care our Midwives provide – not just during birth, but throughout every stage of pregnancy and post labour.

“Their skills, commitment, and compassion make a real difference to the lives of women, babies and families every single day. We are so proud of them.”

Jo Wright, Director of Midwifery at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust said: “Our incredible Midwives are at the heart of everything we do in Maternity Services.

“Every day, they go above and beyond to ensure that women and families feel supported, safe and listened to throughout life changing experiences. International Day of the Midwife is a moment to pause and recognise their passion, dedication and the vital role they play in our communities.”
