I am consultant rheumatologist with an interest and expertise in general rheumatology problems. I underwent training in the West Midlands region, taking time out of programme to complete Masters and PhD programme. I have an active interest in health professional education in rheumatology.

I have a continuing interest in rheumatoid arthritis and Sjögren’s syndrome and am involved with on-going studies in both fields.

Location:
I undertake clinics at the County Hospital in Stafford and at Cannock Chase Hospital.

Biography:
I qualified in 1986 from the University College, Dublin. I gained wide experience in general medicine during my subsequent training at St James’ Hospital, Dublin obtaining the MRCPI in 1989. I was subsequently appointed as clinical lecturer in rheumatology at St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin between 1991 and 1995 and was awarded MD in 1995 for my thesis entitled “Inflammatory Mechanisms in Rheumatoid Arthritis”.

I undertook further specialist training at the University Hospital, Birmingham, prior to appointment as a Consultant Rheumatologist at Cannock Chase Hospital in 1997.

I held the position of clinical director at Mid-Staffs Foundation Trust for a variety of services between 2006 and 2011 and then served there as the clinical tutor, with overall responsibility for postgraduate medical education, and from 2015 until the present, I have been a clinical tutor at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

I am an Associate Dean at Health Education West Midlands, acting as the lead clinical tutor for the region. In May 2018, I take up the position of chairman for NACT UK, the national representative organisation for clinical tutors and directors of medical education across the four nations of the United Kingdom.

I am a clinical Rheumatologist at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT). As an undergraduate I studied at Birmingham Medical School and was awarded an MB ChB and BMedSc in 2001. Following clinical training in Birmingham as a junior doctor, I undertook specialist training in Rheumatology in the North West and West Midlands deanery between 2006 and 2015. I successfully completed my PhD in the field of metabolomics and inflammatory arthritis in 2014.

My clinical and research interests are early inflammatory arthritis and I lead and have set up the early arthritis service at RWT. My main areas of research interest remain in the field of early inflammatory arthritis and I am involved in research at a trust, regional and national level, review papers for international journals and am published in a variety of national and international journals.

I teach medical students from Birmingham University and am a clinical and educational supervisor.

I am a clinical Rheumatologist at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT). I studied undergraduate medicine at   MCOMS, Nepal, affiliated to Kathmandu University. Following Foundation training (FY2) and Core medical training (CMT) in the UK as a junior doctor, I underwent specialist training in rheumatology in the North West Deanery and I was awarded CCT in rheumatology in December 2014. I also completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Rheumatology from the University of Manchester.

I am interested in the field of osteoporosis and I am also involved in research and teaching at the Trust.
