Clinical Trials Unit and Research

The Rheumatology Centre leads the way in new research, pioneering new therapies to treat a range of rheumatology problems at our specialist clinical trials unit.

Clinical trials are medical research studies involving patients, which test the effectiveness of new treatments. This means many patients have the opportunity to take part in a clinical trial, which means they may be one of the first people to benefit from a new therapy. Clinical trials are medical research studies involving patients, which test the effectiveness of new treatments.

Patients are often offered the  opportunity to take part in a clinical trial as part of their ongoing care and treatment.  This may allow them  potential access to emerging treatments for arthritis, connective tissue disease, and pain management.

Taking part in a clinical trial may involve more hospital visits and investigations, i.e. blood tests, but this varies with every study. Participation is entirely voluntary and your details are kept confidential at all times.

We have a dedicated team of research nurses and support staff, conducting many different research studies/clinical trials in Rheumatology conditions at both Cannock Chase Hospital and New Cross Hospital.
