Bone Densitometry

Bone Densitometry

Bone densitometry is a test that quickly and accurately measures the density of bone, using a DXA scanner.

DXA stands for "dual energy X-ray absorptiometry"

A DXA scan is a special type of X-ray that measures the bone mineral density (BMD) on different parts of the body such as the hip or spine.

It is useful to help guide the assessment and management of osteoporosis.

The Rheumatology Centre has access to advanced DXA scanners to help guide the assessment and treatment of patients with osteoporosis and other metabolic bone disease.

The service is provided at both New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital.
