Liver Disease

What To Expect

Upon referral to New Cross Hospital, patients will usually be seen in clinic by the doctor and a thorough history and examination will take place.

To gain more information about the problem, the doctor is likely to ask for some blood tests to be taken and an ultrasound or MRI of your liver. Occasionally these tests are arranged before seeing the doctor in clinic. The results of these tests will then guide us to further tests or treatment you might need.

Sometimes treatment might just be lifestyle modification, such as stopping alcohol or losing weight. Other liver problems might need medication. Sometimes a liver biopsy might be needed, but the doctor will go through this with you if it is needed.
