Having graduated and trained in Scotland, I relocated to the West Midlands in 2007 for my specialty training and joined the trust in 2014. My MD was entitled 'Manipulation of mucosal bacterial communities in inflammatory bowel disease' and reflects some of my areas of interest; inflammatory bowel disease and clinical research. I am involved in research at a trust, regional, national and international level, review papers for international journals and am published in a variety of national and international journals on areas including inflammatory bowel disease, gut microbiota, alcoholism, endoscopy and medical education.
I am interested in endoscopy with a focus in biliary work and expect to participate in the trusts very active programme of national endoscopy training courses.
I am the trust lead for faecal transplant in recurrent Clostridium difficile and participate in a community public health group focusing on maintain standards and reducing incidences of infection within the region. As well as being a member of the inflammatory bowel disease team, I am also a member of the nutrition team, supporting a growing body of doctors, nurses and dieticians within the trust, with a focus on enteral nutrition.
I teach and examine medical students from Birmingham University, teach advanced life support skills to other doctors and am a clinical and educational supervisor.
