I am a clinical Gastroenterologist at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. As an undergraduate I studied at Bristol Medical School and was awarded an MB ChB in 1996. Following clinical training in Bristol as a junior doctor, I undertook specialist training in Gastroenterology in the West Midlands deanery between 1999 and 2005. I successfully completed my PhD in the field of iron metabolism and carcinogenesis in 2007, and was a clinical lecturer at The University of Birmingham until 2009. Following 2009 I was appointed to the Gastroenterology Unit at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.
My role now includes leading the Gastroenterology clinical research program at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, where I supervise research fellows and nurses. My main areas of research interest remain in the field of cellular iron metabolism and more recently the role of intravenous iron therapy in managing pre-operative anaemia. My research has led to the award of NiHR funding to support ongoing projects in collaboration with other academic institutions.
I have recently been appointed chair of the BSG research committee and elected to the BSG IBD committee.
