Dr Helen Steed

Consultant Gastroenterologist

MBChB, MD, MRCP(Gastro)

GMC no: 6053834

Having graduated and trained in Scotland, I relocated to the West Midlands in 2007 for my specialty training and joined the trust in 2014.  I was recipient of a CRN Chief Investigator development award, which subsequently led to my appointment as Professor of Gastroenterology and Medical Education by the University of Wolverhampton in 2019.  I hold the trust role of Clinical Tutor and am responsible for the post graduate education delivered to doctors in training across the trust.  In addition, I am Faculty Lead for Educational Supervisor Training for Health Education West Midlands.

I am the trust lead for faecal transplant in recurrent Clostridium difficile and former IBD Lead 2015-2020.  I remain a member of the inflammatory bowel disease team, and lead of the enteral nutrition team, who won trust awards in 2019 for Excellence in Clinical Care and for best Quality Improvement Programme.

I am a trained endoscopist including in ERCP and sit on the national selection committees for IBD and Food and Function Research group for the British Society of Gastroenterology.

I am involved in supporting commercial and non-commercial research, particularly in inflammatory bowel disease.  We collaborate closely with the University of Wolverhampton and were involved in the development and recent exhibition of Living in Silence - artistic representations of South Asian women's experiences on living with IBD.
