What We Do

Aims of the Partnership:

The service is a partnership between The Royal Wolverhampton Trust, Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust, Aquarius and Nacro.

Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust

The overall aim is to support those using or misusing drugs or alcohol by:

  • Offering screening across the hospital in partnership with the Health Trainers.

  • Providing comprehensive specialist assessment, including risk assessments.

  • Offering treatment and support to individuals of any age experiencing problems with alcohol or drug use.

  • Advising on the psychosocial and pharmacological therapies in line with national and local guidelines.

  • Authoring and reviewing the alcohol and drug hospital guidelines and attend gastroenterology clinical governance meetings to ensure concordance.

  • Offering motivational interviewing sessions whilst in hospital.

  • Continuing assisted withdrawals commenced in hospital in the community when appropriate.

  • Facilitating referral to Recovery Support and Relapse Prevention services in the community.

  • Offering outpatient clinic appointments for recently discharged clients.

  • Facilitating referral into rehabilitation services.

  • Working with the families involved offering support, advice and information.

  • Working in partnership with other services for the benefit of the patient especially Mental Health and Social Care services.

  • Offering training in:
    • IBA (Identification and Brief Advice) NHS training for alcohol.
    • Drug training.
    • Bespoke training to fit the needs and constraints of your team/department.

  • Being innovative in service development with our partners to create best practice for our clients.

The parent service 'Recovery Near You' is funded to see clients from Wolverhampton District. However we have an agreement with the hospital that we can see and signpost clients from 'out of county'.
