A total of 40,000 surgical face masks arrived from China and have been delivered to New Cross Hospital. The consignment will help the Trust implement the Government’s latest advice. Surgical masks now need to be worn by any staff who cannot adequately social distance in their work environment, for example, in offices where they have to sit face to face less than two metres apart. In the Trust, they should also be worn in any patient areas including corridors.

Fosun like to personalise their packages with a positive slogan, and, similar to other batches of PPE they have supplied, the latest is emblazoned with a lyric from Sir Paul McCartney’s song ‘Hope For The Future’ declaring ‘We will be together, sharing the load watching in wonder as our lives unfold’. Wolves Foundation has assisted with the logistics of distribution of the PPE to New Cross.

Will Clowes, Head of Wolves Foundation, said: “Fosun, Wolves and Wolves Foundation are delighted to be able to support The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and New Cross Hospital in any way possible, and will continue to do so until we have beaten this pandemic.”

This is Fosun’s fourth PPE donation to the Trust and the sixth overall to medical services in Wolverhampton since the outbreak. Fosun previously donated 1,300 coveralls and 1,000 masks to the Trust in March, 2,500 protection masks, 900 coveralls and 400 pairs of goggles in April and 4,000 masks in May.

The club have also made a six-figure donation to the Trust, which provides services at New Cross, West Park Hospital, Cannock Chase Hospital and several community and primary care sites. The club, through the Wolves Foundation and Wolves Wishes initiative, have also donated food parcels to Trust staff staying in the Novotel in Wolverhampton city centre. In addition, Wolves Former Players Association, ex-managers and supporters recently made a donation of £51,071.23 to help fund the kitting out of the new two wards being built at New Cross Hospital.

Notes to Editor

  • Molineux has also become a distribution hub for PPE to assist in the delivery of the equipment to other hospital trusts as Fosun look to help out in other areas of the country. They are University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire UHCW NHS Trust, Imperial College North West London Hospitals (Northwick Park), Royal Free London NHS Trust and Oxford University Hospitals. Those trusts have received PPE donation deliveries as part of Fosun’s COVID-19 Global Relief Programme.
