X68 Bus Service Changes

X68 Bus Service Changes

Date of release: 4 September 2015

A bus service that runs between New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton and Cannock Chase Hospital in Cannock is to have a change in its timetable.

The X68 bus began running between the two sites in February this year, with Arriva Midlands Limited contracted by the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) to provide the Monday to Friday service.

The bus is free of charge for NHS patients with an appointment letter from RWT, Trust staff with an ID badge, children up to the age of five and people over 60 with an ID card.

The service has seen an increase in passenger’s month on month and a review of the service will now see a change in timetable to reflect demand.

Hourly services start at 6.54am in Wolverhampton and 7.30am in Cannock with stops at Wolverhampton Bus Station, Wednesfield Road, The Blue Brick, New Cross Hospital, Featherstone, Red White and Blue public house, Longford Road, Longford Centre, Cannock Bus Station and Cannock Chase Hospital.

There is an additional bus at lunchtime with the last services of the day leaving Cannock Chase Hospital at 6.30pm arriving in Wolverhampton Bus Station at 7.06pm.

The X68 will not operate the 12-mile route on public holidays.

Raj Chander, Arriva’s local manager said: “Arriva Midlands is proud to continue working in partnership to with The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) to deliver this essential service linking New Cross and Cannock Chase Hospitals.”

“We have worked closely with RWT to deliver a route and timetable for X68 that provides the most direct link between the hospitals for the benefit of patients, hospital staff and other bus users.”

Gwen Nuttall, Chief Operating Officer for RWT, added: “We are pleased to provide this service for people when they need it most and the new service reflects that.”

Relatives of patients and the general public can also use the single deck buses but will be charged a standard fare between the two hospitals - £2.60 Adult Single / £1.80 Child Single (aged 5 – 15 years inc)
