New System For Heart Patients Will Ensure High Quality Care

New system for heart patients will ensure high-qualtity care

Date of release: Friday 27th March, 2015

Management of the treatment and care of Cannock Chase patients with heart problems is the latest service to be transferred to the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT).

From 01 April all GP referrals for cardiology services - including echo-cardiology, irregular heartbeat, heart failure and angina - will be handled by the RWT, with patients and their doctors offered a choice of treatment centres, at either Cannock Chase or New Cross Hospital.

All GPs in the Cannock Chase area have been informed of the change and have been provided with detailed information on how to refer patients for treatment under the new system.

Cannock Chase Hospital became part of the RWT in November 2014 following the transfer of services from Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust.

Since then, management teams have been working towards the integration of services at CCH to make sure that all treatments and other services offered by the Trust are delivered to the same high standards.

Dr Michael Norell, Consultant Cardiologist and Clinical Director of the RWT Cardiothoracic Group, said: "Our aim is to provide timely, high-quality cardiology care for all patients under the care of Cannock Chase GPs."
