The award-winning Rehabilitation Day Unit team at Cannock Chase Hospital is up for its second accolade in two years.
After scooping a Best of Staffordshire Award in 2013 for its work with people with complex neurological conditions, they have now been nominated for Most Outstanding Team at the Rebuilding Lives Awards organised by the Spinal Injuries Association.
The specialist unit is among three nominees in the category and the team will find out if they have been successful at an awards ceremony to be held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on June 4.
The Unit helps people recover from a life-changing event, such as a serious injury or a stroke, working with them to improve physical ability.
It also enjoys the support of an active friends and support charity call LARF (Life After Rehab Friends), which raises money and share experiences. Many of the volunteers are former patients with the unit, who want to give something back to say thanks for the treatment they received.
The Unit also plans to works closely with colleagues at the West Park Rehabilitation Unit in Wolverhampton to provide a joined-up approach to treatment across The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.
Rehabilitation Nurse Specialist Sue Noble said: “We are delighted to be in the running for this award. It is a testament to the work of the whole team and our support network of volunteers.”
