Patients enjoyed taking part in various activities throughout the day including an old fashioned sing-a-long, dance demonstrations (with Staff and Volunteers dressed in old fashioned fancy dress) and a multi faith service led by the Chaplaincy Team.

The Trust strives to deliver excellence in person-centred dementia care and become a truly ‘dementia friendly’ organisation.

Today also saw the launch of the Dementia Information and Support Hub (generously supported by The WARRANT Trust); which will provide additional information and support sessions for carers of people with dementia during visiting times in various locations across the Trust.

The Trust’s Consultant Nurse for Dementia Services Julie Willoughby said “We couldn’t let this 5 year milestone go by un-noticed; it has been a privilege and a pleasure to celebrate with colleagues, patients, carers and friends. I am so proud of our achievements over the past 5 years and credit each and every member of the RWT Dementia Services Team for their hard work and dedication in ensuring that we deliver excellence in dementia care every single day. I look forward with excitement and anticipation to the next chapter of our developing services over the next 5 years”.

Sister Lisa Hill also thanked the Volunteer Team, Therapy Services and the Chaplaincy Team for all of their support.

Local business including Wolverhampton Fitness Centre supported the day by providing much appreciated raffle prizes to support the on-going fundraising for the specialist ward.

Leanne Bood, Fundraising Coordinator for The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity said “Thank you to everyone that supported the day with their very generous donations and those who brought raffle tickets. A birthday wouldn’t be the same without a birthday cake so special thanks also to Purmilla Bhatti – founder of Cake Maker for her support.”
