Trust’s Security Services Bags Two National Awards
The security team at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) has been awarded two awards at this year’s National Association for Healthcare Security (NAHS) Awards, which took place on 18 November at The Studio in Birmingham. NAHS is not-for-profit organisation which aims to support healthcare provision through the delivery of professional security management; ensuring staff are equipped to provide a safe and secure environment for staff, patients and visitors.

RWT Secures Prestigious Race Code Quality Mark
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) has become the first NHS trust in the Black Country to have secured the Race Code quality mark in recognition of its improvement in race equality and ability to tackle discrimination in the workplace. The RACE Code – which stands for Reporting, Action, Composition and Education – was established in 2020 by Dr Karl George MBE.

Volunteers and Staff Shortlisted for National Awards
Three volunteers and one member of staff at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust have been nominated for national awards to recognise their fantastic contribution to volunteering in the health and care sector. Eve Adams has been shortlisted for ‘Young Volunteer of the Year’ category in the Helpforce Champions Awards 2021, Rikki Sweet and Phil Weaver have both been shortlisted for ‘Volunteer of the Year’ and Abigail Townsend has been shortlisted for ‘Volunteer Leader of the Year’, all in the same awards event.

Two Senior Trust Nurses Honoured by the Chief Nurse of England
Two senior nurses at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust have become the first in the organisation to be honoured for their contributions by Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer for England. Professor Ann-Marie Cannaby, Chief Nurse, has received the Gold award at the Chief Midwifery Officer Awards, recognising lifetime achievements for nurses and midwives. Karen Glover, Matron in Trauma and Orthopaedics, earned the Silver award, which recognises major contributions to patients and the profession.

Construction Project of the Year Award
The two new wards at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust have won a construction industry award after being erected in double-quick time. The new modular wards, which opened in July and cost around £10 million, won the Construction Project of the Year award as part of the Insider West Midlands Property Awards 2020.

British Standards Institute (BSI) Award
The Clinical Engineering team, based in the Deanesly Centre at New Cross Hospital, has been recognised by the British Standards Institute (BSI) for its quality management system.
Sara Eacopo, Senior Sister of the Community Children’s Nursing Service at New Cross Hospital, has been awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse (QN), for demonstrating a high level of commitment to patient care and nursing practice.
Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award
The Trust has been recognised for its outstanding support to the Armed Forces community, by being awarded an Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award.
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s Urology team have cause for a double celebration after winning two national awards.
Clare Waymont, Kelly Kusinski, and Jenny Akins – all Urology Advanced Nurse Practitioners – won the Cancer Nursing category at the Nursing Times Awards.

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust has partnered with Compton Care to win a Black Country Chamber of Commerce Business Award.
National Health and Social Care Strategic Information Governance Network Awards
The Trust’s data security and protection team was voted Information Governance Team of the Year at the National Health and Social Care Strategic Information Governance Network Awards 2020, overcoming competition from nine other NHS organisations shortlisted.

Nursing Times Workforce Summit Awards 2020 - Best Diversity and Inclusion Practice and Best UK Employer of the Year for Nursing Staff.

Nicola Farnell, Clinical Nurse Specialist, won the Bruce Turner Award from the British Association of Urological Nurses (BAUN) – for setting up the BCG database.

Sandra Roberts won Leader of the Year at a national conference celebrating Estates and Facilities excellence. She has been recognised by The Health Estates and Facilities Management Association (HEFMA) for her impressive work-ethic and contribution to service development; receiving her award at the 2019 HEFMA Leadership Forum in Doncaster.

Raz Edwards, information governance manager and data protection officer, won a National Health and Social Care Strategic Information Governance Network award.
