Care Homes Infection Prevention
The Covid training package for care homes has been written by Infection Prevention at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and developed from the previous work undertaken by Leeds CCG, Dudley CCG and Clinicalskills.net.
The aim of the training is to:
- Update and enhance staff knowledge on Covid-19 and how it spreads
- Update and enhance staff knowledge on infection prevention practices that will help prevent the spread
- Facilitate the implementation of safe and effective practice through education on infection prevention

WHY? Hands are the main pathways of germ transmission during health care
WHO? Hand hygiene is therefore the most important measure to avoid the transmission of harmful germs and prevent health care-associated infections
Wash your hands with soap and water or alcohol hand gel before and after patient contact
You must have clean: short, unvarnished nails, without extensions
Your hands must be free from skin irritation with cuts covered
Your hands must be free from jewellery other than a plain band
You must be Bare below elbows with cuffs, watches and fitness trackers in pockets
Wash your hands before eating
Wash your hands after using the toilet
