The Clinical Director appointment July 2018
As you may recall in recognition of the complexity and scale the Clinical Director role, a substantive appointment had not been made previously. This was to allow development of the job description and person specification to fully match the scope of the role.
We are pleased to announce that following a formal interview and appointment process Dr Paul Harrison was offered and accepted the post of BCPS Clinical Director.
Paul has been the Chair of the Clinical Reference Group, and as such already has a good understanding of the work we’re doing to implement BCPS and make it a success. Paul’s background is that of a consultant haematologist, but he has also held senior management roles within the NHS in the Black Country and nationally has held a number of roles within both the RCP and RCPath mostly around education and training.
Both the BCPS and Paul personally would wish to thank Dr Ye Lin Hock for his commitment and hard work in undertaking the Interim Clinical Directors role.
Paul is planning on meeting as many of you as possible over the next few weeks and months. He is keen to hear as many views and opinions as possible and to engage with you so that we can take advantage of the opportunities presented by the BCPS.

NHS Improvement have asked all Trusts to move towards pathology networks over the next three years. The proposed pathology network for the Black Country includes the addition of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. We have replied to NHS Improvement indicating our support for Shrewsbury and Telford who may wish to join our shared service in the future, but it is not possible to alter our timescales due to the need for new arrangements to be in place before the opening of the Midland Metropolitan Hospital in 2019.
