Diwali 2021

Diwali, also known as Divali or Deepawali, is a major festival celebrated over five days by people of different faiths including many Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, Muslims and some Buddhists. It is sometimes referred to as “the festival of lights.”

It is a five-day religious festival, with the main festival day falling on a different date each autumn, timed the Hindu lunar calendar, but it usually in October or November.

The Arts & Heritage Group in partnership with The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity and the Trust’s Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Employee Voice Group, arranged for Antonio Jhalli, a Dhol player from the city to perform for staff during their lunch break. The charity also helped to source lights from local suppliers that were displayed across the New Cross Hospital site throughout the celebrations.
